Something ventured, something gained

thirdpersonpress screenshot I’m leaping into the publishing world!

Since last June, my friends and colleagues, Julie Serroul and Sherry Ramsey, and I have been planning and working toward starting our own publishing house. A tiny, fledgling venture.

Our debut publication is to be an anthology of short stories and poetry all in the speculative fiction genre and all on the theme, Undercurrents. Speculative fiction includes science fiction, fantasy, paranormal, horror, magic realism—you know: speculation.

This anthology is conceived as showing the alternate side of writing and writers on Cape Breton Island. As such, submissions will only be accepted from those who live, have lived or have a significant connection to Cape Breton.

For complete guidelines and information go to ThirdPersonPress.com.

Deadline for submissions is March 15, 2008.

A change of names

icon-meta3.gif So. I had to change domain names. My other one (nancysmwaldman.com) expired and I know all too well that the hosting servers scoop up any expired name and try to then sell it back to you at horrendous prices. This particular one is aplus web hosting. Stay away—though I do not know if it’s common practice or not. I believe them to be horrid scammers.name

It was, I suppose, my fault…though I do not beat myself up for it because it was in the morass of changing from this yucky non-aplus hosting to another that this domain name fell through the cracks. I thought it had been re-registered and it hadn’t.

Chalk it up. Live and learn. I’m just grateful that I have so many names so that I can have numerous varieties of personal site domain names to pick from.

So I’m back up and running and luckily not too many people had this blog on their Favorites list! ;)

The amazing thing was that I followed the WordPress instructions for changing a domain name and still maintaining the site as is and whoa!!!!!! it worked. I still can’t believe it. I had to go into mySQL and myphpadmin or whatever it’s called and reach into the engine and move things around and then it started right up! I’m still reeling from the success.

Kind of a quick turn-around from the scowl I had on earlier that I had to do this at all!

It makes me want to tell everyone to be certain they know who is hosting their domains and when they expire. If this happened with The PCQ or EPIC I’d probably just give up the web and go do something else with my life!

There are many other things happening to me but this is enough for now. Happy new name. Tra la~~~
